1960 - Exporter who cannot export A curiosity at the Industrial Fair in Hanover is the sign at the stall of the Laco Watch factory reading that the export capacity for 1960 is sold out. As last year the production of the factory in Pforzheim (West Germany) could be improved considerably, suddenly many more watches were sold. The interest in the watches was much higher than the long planned producing capacity. As in all German watch factories (Germany is the second greatest watch exporter in the world), also here a great part of the production is made for export. But to meet with the requests of the German wholesalers, a part of the production meant for the export was sold in Germany. The result is now a shortage of watches for the export. A raising of the production is not possible as the staff of highly qualified expert workers cannot be extended within a short time, and the parts of the watches cannot be produced quicker as the quality would then be reduced.
