May 05, 1963 - Fort Belvoir, Va: Model of floating platform mine detector to be used for both on-road and cross country search capability, The U.S. Army Mobility Command's Engineer Research and Development Laboratories, Fort Belvoir, Va, have conceived the idea of mounting a detector on a Ground Effects Machine (GEMO) carrier. The air - cushion carrier will use a Multi-blade fan to support the entire detector assembly at least six inches above the ground, It will be attached in front of a jeep or other vehicle by means of a 20 foot hinged boom which will permit free vertical movement. A contract has been awarded to Frost Engineering Development Corp. Englewood, Colorado for the development of an experimental carrier
