Oct. 17, 1966 - Exhibition Of Clocks In London.: Some of the finest examples of modern Swiss and English clocks using the most advanced as well as traditional means of operation, will be on display from tomorrow (Oct. 18) at Aspreys, the Bond Street jewllers. Loading Swiss watchmakers-among them Patek Phillipe, Luxor, Royale and Jaeger-LeCoultre-and the English company Elliott are represented in an exhibition or nearly 200 clocks, the first of its kind to be held in this country. Photo shows. At today's preview, Miss Anne Aldred Rediffusion Television's Weather Girl with an Atmos clock, by Jaeger-LeCoultre, that lives on air'. It derives its energy from changes in atmosphere. Sealed within the Atmos is an expansion chamber that convertes temperature changes into mechanical motion. This contains a gas having a very high coefficient of expansion particularly between 54F. The slightest temperature variation will thus cause the gas to change volume. When the temperature rises, the gas dilates and the chamber, working like a bellows, expands, compressing the coiled spring. When the temperature falls, gas and bellows contract and the coiled spring slackens. It is this to-and-fro motion that winds the Atmos. A temperature change of only 2F provides it with sufficient energy for 48 hours of timekeeping. The Atmos therefore works even in air-conditioned homes, common place. Drawing its power from a never phenomenon. the constantly changing temperature the Atmos is as tireless as human ingenuity has been able to devise
