Western Electric's Loretta Mare and new unit (stamp size area below her eye) which will make sounds for Bell System Touch Tones calling. to increase electronic reliability and save costs and space, Bell Laboratories redesigned the tone unit. Nineteen resistors, for instance were made from a tantalum film only two one millionth of an inch in depth. Several hundreds thin film tone units have already been made, and Western Electric engineers in Indianapolis, Indiana, have responsibility for establishing full scale production (720, 000 or more) in the future. Then the new film will have its public exposure in Bell System telephones
