Dec. 12, 1965 - G.P.O. Press-Button telephone experiment.: The G.P.O. are to introduce press-button telephone in a three-month experiment early next year. The instrument will have 10 numbered button, arranged in tow rows of five instead of the normal 10 finger holes. Two different systems will be on trial. One uses voice-frequency tone signalling generators inside the telephone, working into special equipment in teh exchange. In the other systerm, the telephone is connected to a nearby mains-operated converter which does not need any special equipment at the exchange. The telephone can be used for internal calls on existing automatic branch exchanges as well as for calls on the public network.
