Jun. 09, 1959 - Notes out of an automaton: The director of the Bielefeld Max-Plank grammer-school, Lothar Wolf - left - has constructed an automaton for noting, the model of which was now exhibited for the first time in front of a small circle of pedagogues. The machine electronically feels along the margins of the copy-books. Marks written with pencil (graphite) on the margins cause electrical impulses which get to work an automatic counter. An electro-magnetic stop-watch adds the mistake-impulses, puts them into order according to kind and heaviness and then puts down the proper note.
