Apr. 17 Softening up the tough guys: Cookery, home management, and beauty culture are all on the agenda of the Squires Youth Club in the tough Elephant and Castle area of London. And the keenest students of these subjects are the boys. Only a few years ago, teenage boys would have laughed at the idea of learning the social graces but gradually they have taken over these classes which were originally intended for the girls. The area was once notorious for the teenage gangs roaming the streets but now many of the boys are realising the importance of becoming socially acceptable, thus the tendency to crime and drug addiction is reduced.
