Coronation pageant rehearsal, Meadle, Buckinghamshire

Feb. 29 Look out girls, here come the Beefeaters! is the cry as these cows spied these stalwart young Yeomen of the Guard as they crossed the field to the Pageant rehearsal. They literally ran for their lives! Cattle get a preview of Village's Coronation Tableau: Meadle, Bucks, is holding a Coronation Carnival on June 6th and one of the tableaux to be included depicts Queen Elizabeth I with her ladies in waiting, pages and Yeomen of the Guard. All the parts are being taken by children and the ladies of the village have all co-operated in making the costumes from odd scraps of material. Playing the part of the Queen is pretty 13-year-old Ursula Moore. While crossing a field on their way to a rehearsal the children found their way barred by inquisitive cows eager to get a preview of the tableau. They soon got out of the way however, when the Beefeaters arrived, somebody must have told them that Yeomen of the Guard are not called Beefeaters for nothing
