Set. 5, 1957 - Countess Mountbatten launches replica of the Susan Constant, a replica (which will never sail) of the Susan Constant, one of the vessels which landed at Jamestown in 1607, and which will play a leading part in this year's Woolwich Searchlight Tattoo, when the Jamestown landing will be re-enacted was launched this afternoon outside Woolwich Town Hall by Countess Mountbatten. A bottle of River James water, especially flown over by the U.S. Air Force was smashed across the bows of the vessels.
