Covered statues of Peron and late wife, Buenos Aires
Nov. 11, 1955 - THEY DON'T LIKE THEM ANY MORE!! PERON STATUES - COVERED IN SACKCLOTH. Very much in disfavour with the new rebel Government in Argentina is former president Peron - at one time regarded by many as the saviour of the country. The huge statues of General Peron and the late Eva Peron which adorned the center of the roof of the huge, still unfinished building of the Eva Peron Social Aid Fund - have been covered with sackcloth, prior to their being removed. The statues are 7 metres in height and weigh 30 tons each, and were the work of Italian sculptor Tommassi. Keystone Photo Shows:- The two statues - centre of a long line of similar creations - each illustrating part of the Peronista Argentine - covered with sackcloth prior to their removal - in Buenos Aires
