Jun. 06, 1953 - Christie Trial Continues At Old Bailey. Doctors Clash: Doctors for the defence and prosecution clashed this afternoon at the Old Bailey trial of John Regineld Holliday Christie. Christie, standing trial on a charge of murdering his wife Ethel, is pleading insanity. First, Dr. J.A. Hobson, psychiatrist at the Middlesex Hospital, sazid: Christie is sufferening from gross hysteria'. Probably, he said, Christie did not know he was doing wrong when he killed. Second, Dr. J.C.M. Matheson, Brixton Prison's chief medical officer said I think Christie is sane'. Third, Dr. Desmond Curran, (Illegible) at St. George's Hospital said, I would regard Christie as a highly abnormal character rather than a a victim of disease.
