Oct. 10, 1957 - All the troops say brave soldier's wife deserves a Medal too.: A London mother tackled an Ecka gunman who shot her soldier husband in Cyprus, in November. Today, 37-year old Mrs. Betty Middleton was at Hounslow Barracks to see her husband, Warrant Officer Harold Middleton receive a mention in despatches for his part in the incident. It was presented to him before a parade of 250 men by General Sir Charles Coleman, G.O.C.-in-C, Eastern Command. W/C. Middleton fired five shots at two youths before he collapsed on the doorstep of his house in Limassol. But his wife ran forward and grabbed on of the gunmen, a 15-year old boy.
