Aug. 08, 1956 - Police Scramble Over Prison Roof To Save Convict. Captured And Taken To Ground: For two hours yesterday warders and firemen scrambled over the roof of Horfield Prison, Briston to save 37 year old convict William Edward Whitehouse. Hes was serving a sentence of four years for attempting to murder his wife. He broke away from the exercise yard and climbed a drainpipe to the 55ft. high roof. after struggling for some time Whitehose was eventurally held and taken to the ground.
