1959 - Mother Forgives man who killed her Daughter: 22-year old Edmund Barber, of Virgini-road, Thornton Heath, Surrey, was yesterday sentenced to three years jail, after being found not guilty of murder, but guilty of the manslaughter of 17-year old Carol Ann Soan, the dead he loved. Mrs. Josephine Soan, mother of the dead girl and Mrs. Mary Barber, mother of Edmund Barber, sat together during the trial. The judge at the old Biley said of Mrs. Soan; Her response to this tragedy is in the highest possible tradition of Christianity.
