Crimes - Criminals - Judges - Lawyers - Trials

1959 - Lord X helps the drug girl: The girl who pleaded guilty to trying to kill herself spoke last night about the peer who is helping her rebuild her life. She calls him Lord X, although she knows who he is, she is keeping his name secret. The girl is Janet Reeves, 21-years-old, who lives at Upminster, Essex. Janet was in the dock of Hampstead Court during the day charged with attempted suicide. She had swallowed sodium amytal tablets in a cup of cocoa, but the magistrates put her on probation for two years. Janet first met Lord X on Easter Monday when he visited her in Holloway Jail, where she was on remand, after reading newspaper reports about her near-fatal friendship with 40-year-old Lawrence Smith, and the strange love that could not be satisfied by ordinary things, as she described it. Photo shows Janet Reeves pictured at her home in Upminster last night
