Feb. 26 Largest Gold Smuggling Case Unrevealed; After the exchange of information of smuggling case from Canadian police through the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) last May, Tokyo police arrested three foreign businessmen on charge of smuggling of gold valued at about330 million. The foreigner placed under arrest were French trader David Ventura (480, Israeli Bernard Goorevich (67) and American Rudolph Chevez (44). They had concealed 260 gold bars in the bottom of 263 35 pound cans of motor grease, and put on board the British freighter Brecon Beacon of the Medmusley. Tokyo police's further questioning unrevealed that in the end of January they had tried to smuggle 300 more gold bars which were seized on the ship's arrival in Yokohama and had already smuggled another 300 gold bars. The total number of gold bars another 300 gold bars. The total number of gold bars smuggled became 960, valued at about670 million.
