Mar. 31 The Trial Of Majdanek is nearing the end: The longest trial in the West German history, the trial of Majdanek, is nearing the end. In this trial, already lasting five years and two months and taking place at the jury court of Dusseldorf, the defending counsels have started their pleading after the two public prosecutors have striked the balance of the hearing of evidence. The closing speeches of the total of 18 duty solicitors will still last for some weeks. The nine defendants, under them two women are said to have cooperated in murder of atleast 250000 prisoners of the concentration camp in Lublin/Majdanek (Poland). The public prosecutors have summoned an imprisonment for life for four of the defendants, under them the 67-year old former leader of the protective custody camp Hermann Hackmann and the former SS-warder Hermine Ryan-Braun-steiner, and for the other defendants imprisonments of many years. During this trial more than 300 witnesses have been heard, under them about 200 former prisoners of the camp. The Judgement of the trial of Majdanek is said to be pronounced in the summer of this year.
