Crimes - Criminals - Judges - Lawyers - Trials

Mar. 27 Ulrike Meinhof committed suicide in Prison: Almost one year after the beginning of the trial against leading members of the anarchist Beader/Meinhof group, another member of the group has died in custody. Ulrike Meinhof (41-picture) was found dead on May 9th in her cell of the Stuttgart Stammheim prison, after she had hanged herself with a towel. On November 9th 1974, Holger Meins, also one of the leaders of the group, had died while being on hunger strike. Ulrike Meinhof was born on October 7th 1934 in Oldenburg (North Germany). She studied philosophy, pedagogics, socilogy and German philogy. She had been chief editor of the leftist magazine Konkret from 1960 to 1964. 1961 she married the publisher of the magazine, Klaus Rainer Rohl, and because two daughters. In 1968, the couple was divorced and Ulrike Meinhof went to West-Berlin, where she became a member of anarchist circles. Some years later, she joined the underground movement together with the Baader/Meinhof group which had been established by her. The trial against the other leading members (Andreas Baader, Gudrun Eusslin, Jan-Carl Raspe) will probably be continued on May 11th
