Dec. 12, 1963 - Auschwitz trial opened in Frankfurt: 22 former SS-men are facing court in West Germany's biggest war crimes trial. They are accused to have joint in the murder of an estimated 2 1/2 million people in the Auschwitz extermination camp. The trial, which is held in the Frankfurt City Hall, is expected to last 8 months. Photo shows cameramen swarm around as the accused enter the court room
