Dec. 12, 1966 - Indonesian Ex Air Chief on Trial. The trial of ex Air Commandant Omar Dhani has commenced in Djakarta before a military tribunal in the Indonesian Capital. Dhani is charged with complicity in the communist coup etat which failed last October, and resulted in the murder and mutilation of right wing generals whose bodies were thrown into a well known as the Crocodile Hole'. He has implicated President Sukarno by stating that he was aware of the coup, and in fact was waiting by a plane provided by Dhani near the site of the massacre to take off if the coup failed, and remain in the country. Although the coup was failed, Sukarno was persuaded to regain his Palace in Bogor and deny any knowledge of the affair. Previously, Subandrio the ex Foreign Minister has been tried and sentenced to death for similar participation in the abortive coup, and awaits the firing squad in Prison. His only hope is clemency from Sukarno who has maintained silence on the issue. Photo Shows: Ex Air General Omar Dhani at his trial in Djakarta
