Feb. 02, 1968 - Largest gold smuggling case revealed; After the exchange of information of smuggling case from Canadian Police through the International Criminal Police Organisation (ICPO) last May, Tokyo police arrested three foreign businessman on a charge of smuggling gold valued at about330 million. The foreigners placed under arrest were French trader, David Ventura, 48, Israeli Bernard Goorevich, 67, and American Rudolph Cheves, 44. They had concealed 260 gold bars in the bottom of 263 - 33 pound cans of motor grease, and put on board the British freighter Brecon Beacon of the Medmusley. Tokyo police's further questioning revealed that in the end of January they had tried to smuggle 300 more gold bars which were seized on the ship's arrival in Yokohama and had already smuggled another became 960, valued at about 1/2 670 million.
