Sep. 13, 1971 - Detectives Discover bank Raid in weekend Search after a Radio ham Picked up the Gang's messages : Detectives discovered today the big bank robbery after their weekend search following a tip - off from a radio ham who eavesdropped on a walkie-talkie conversation between members of the gang while they were at work. One of their comments was We're sitting on ?300, 000'. The ham tape recorded the messages and called the police. Detector vans toured the area withing a ten-mile radius. The robbery was discovered this morning a Lloyds branch on the corner of Baker Street and Marylebone road.
