Nov. 11, 1969 - American Gunman who hijacked a Boeing across two continents is arrested near Rome.: The longest airliner hijacking in history ended near Rome today when a gunman Vietnam war hero, Raphael Minichielli was captured a few miles south of Rome. The gunman, who had celebrated his 20th birthday by forcing the Boeing 707 jet to fly from California to Rome, stopping at four airports on the way, had made a dramatic escape from the jet at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport, where he finally landed.
