Dec. 12, 1967 - Fitting out the Queen Elizabeth II: In a year's time the most expensive passenger liner ever built will be on her maiden voyage to the sun, but today there is no hint of future magnificence as the Queen Elizabeth II is fitted out in the Clammy mists of the Clyde. She is a gloomy warren of bare metal, schoing to the noize of welding and hammering, and fulled with training cables and hissing air-lines. Halls and lunges which will glitter with jewels and parties are now adorned only by notices warning John Brown shipyard workers that further writing on the walls will not be permitted and that employees persisting in this wasteful practice will be suspended or dismissed. Hers and there are indications that cunard has changed its mind during the building of the 29 million ship. A Bulkhead now marked as the sits of he theatre bar carries almost-erased lettering showing it was originally to have been a cabin class lounge.
