Nov. 11, 1960 - Oil leak cuts short QE2 Sea Trials; The trials of the Cunarder Queen Elizabeth 2, 650, 000 tons, were interrupted yesterday became oil had seeped into the water system in the boiler room. The ship returned from trials in the Firth of Clyde to her anchorage at Tail of the bank and will re-enter the dry dock at Greenock today. Mr. Rannie Managing Director of the Clydebank division of upper Clyde Ship builders, who is aboard the ship observing the trials, said that the ship had undergone Satisfactory trials in perfect conditions, she had carried out fast working up speeds but had not gone 2 Full Ahead over a measured mile.
