Jul. 18, 1968 - July 18th 1968 The Czechs defy the Russian ultimatum as their party leader seeks nationwide support The Czech Government have made a defiant reply to Russia's demands that they should drop plans for a more liberal Communist regime. The demand was sent to Prague after a summit meeting in Warsaw attended by Soviet, Polish, East German, Hungarian and Bulgarian Communist Party leaders. In their reply the Czechs stoutly rejected charges that the nation's new liberal regime was counter-revolutionary and was endangering the Socialist System.
