Damaged Rubens painting is taken away, Munich
Feb. 02, 1959 - Destroyed Rubens is being carried away The painting The condemned tumbling into hell by Rubens which on Feb. 26th, 1959 was destroyed by an acid-assault by Walter Menzl of Constance will probably not be able to be restored again. The work which had a value of about 2 million DM (about 200, 000) was on Feb. 27th, 1959 transported from the Alte Pinakothek to the Central Institute of Art History in the Munich Meiser Street, in order to be restored. O.p.s'- Munich people look on as the painting which weighs 9 cwts is being carried away. The destroyed part is clearly visible
