Feb. 29 Theatre's Grandest Old Lady Is Ninety: Dame Sybil Thorndike - grandest old lady of the English Theatre - celebrates her 90th birthday on Tuesday (October 24th 1972). Although these days she suffers from severe arthritis, Dame Sybil always manages a welcoming smile for visitors to the little Chelsea flat where she lives a quiet life with her memories and souvenirs of theatrical days gone by, and of her late husband, Sir Lewis Casson. On Wednesday (October 25th 1972) Dame Sybil will be guest of honour at a special birthday concert to be presented by Pro Arte Society in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. Philomusica of London, with guest artistes Jeremy Thorpe, Joyce Grenfell, Leon Goossens, Eric Hope, Millicent Martin, David Munrow and John Casson, will present Haydn's Toy Symphony -- a musical present from musical friends'.
