Jun. 06, 1966 - Oxford Honours For Dame Sybil Thorndike And Her Husband Sir Lewis Casson: Dame Sybil Thorndike, aged, 83, and her husband Sir Lewis Casson, aged, 90, were both awarded honorary degrees of Doctor in Literature by Oxford University at a ceremony at the Sheldonian today. They are believed to be the first husband and wife to do so. Dame Sybil already holds honorary degree at Manchester, Edinburgh, and Southampton Universities, while Sir Lewis has honorary degrees at Glasgow and the University of Wales and is a fellow of the Imperial College of Science.
