Mar. 31 To Attempt The World Speed Record: Even before the 727.6 m.p.h. world record of Squadron - Leader Neville Duke in his Hawker Hunter has been officially approved, another British attempt on it is planned. Lt. Commander M.J. Lithgow, 33-years-old chief test pilot of Vickers-Armstrong, is getting ready to go in a Supermarine Swift Mark IV in the drier and hotter atmosphere of Libya, North Africa. Photo shows Lt. Commander M.J. Lithgow, A former British Navy pilot, he was naval test pilot to the British Air Commission at the U.S. Naval Air Test Centre, Patuxent River, Md. during 1945.
