Aug. 08, 1963 - Lone Man Beats The Killer Peak Alpine Guide The North Wall Of The Eiger: Michael Darbellay, a 29-year-old Alpine guide has made the first ever solo climb of the treacherous north wall of the Eiger. Darbellay of Rasisre, in the Valais region of Switzerland did the climb in 19 climbing hours - only two hours less than the record set up by a fast two-man Swiss tea, last Thursday.
