Aug. 08, 1974 - Girl fails in attempt to he fired across the river Avon. 21-year old Leicester secretary and part - time stunt girl. Mary Connors, failed in her attempt to be fired - by a 20 ft cannon - 90 feet across the River Avon into a net. Today's shot was a test to find out how much powder is needed. The attempt was made from the riverside at breaking-stone meadow, Twekesbury, Gloucester shire. phto shows After being fired from the cannon, Mary Connors is seen falling into the river, as the attempt failed
