David Evans, sculptor, working on Gog sculpture
Feb. 28, 1953 - Gog and Magog are born again: In a studio at Welwyn Garden City sculptor David Evans is working on two pieces of reborn London history - the new statues of those legendary giants, Gog and Magog. It is just over 12 years since their predecessors who had stood in Guildhall since 1708 perished in flames when fire bombs rained down. Working from clay models, the sculptor has fashioned the two statues in limewood, each 9ft 3 ins high, and weighing about 15 cwt. The statues are expected to be in their places in time for the Queen's Coronation visit to the city. Photo shows Sculptor David Evans at work on Gog today
