David Evans, sculptor, working on Gog sculpture
Mar. 11, 1953 - Work progresss on the Statues of Gog and Magog for return to the Guildhall. Work nears completion at the Welwyn Garden City Studio of Manchester sculptor David Evans on the new statues of the famous Guildhall which were destroyed by German fire bombs in 1940. The statues are 9ft 3 ins in height (the originals were 14ft). The sculpture is being financed by Sir George Wilkinson, former Lord Mayor of London and the statues are to be placed in position in time for Coronation Day. Photo shows Mr Evans at work on the statue of Gog from a miniature, while on left can be seen the completed statue of Magog - and the miniature - at his Welwyn Garden City Studio, today
