May 05, 1969 - Investiture Of Prince Of Wales Special Stamp Series: Five special stamps will be issued an July 1 to commemorate the investiture of the Prince of Wales. They will comprise a set of three stamps each at 5d and two single stamps at 9d 1s. The set of three (Triptych) will depict from left to right, part of Caernavon Castle associated with the Investiture ceremony -- the King's Gate, the Eagle Tower, and Queen Eleanor's Gate. The Prince will enter the Castle through the gateway at the Eagle Tower and will subsequently be presented at Queen Eleanor's Gate and the King's gate. The 9d stamp illustrates a fine example of Welsh art - a Celtic Cross from Margam Abbey, Glamorgan; Welsh and English all the stamps have the Welsh and English version of the words Prince of Wales (Tywysog Cymru'). This is the second occasion the Welsh language Manei has been used on British Stamps, the previous being the 136d Menai Bridge stamp issued in April 1968. The three 5d stamps will be in eight colours - black (wards and a special black for the Queen's head), red, silver, , green, mid-grey, dark grey colours - black, gold, dark grey and light grey. There will be two colours in the 1s stamp - black and gold. All five for the design of many British special issues, the most recent being the British Series earlier this year. The stamps will be printed in protogravure by Harrison and Sons Ltd, the 5d values in sheets of 72, the 9d and 1s Values in sheets of 60. All will have phosphor lines.
