David Steel and John Pardoe, Liberal Party leadership

Jul. 07, 1976 - July 7th 1976 David Steel is the new leader of the Liberal Party. Mr. David Steel was confirmed as the new leader of the Liberal Party. It was calculated that he beat his only rival Mr. John Pardoe, by a ratio of 2-1. Mr. Steel the 38 year old son of a Moderator of the Church of Scotland, is MP for the Scottish border constituency of Roxburgh. He now takes over from Mr. Jo Grimond who has been acting as caretaker.
