May 30, 1974 - Nine Deads By A Bridge Crash In Kempten, Bavaria: In the early morning hours of April 30, 1974, the motorway bridge Leubastal near Kempten, Bavaria broke down and till now the cause is unclear. The accident happened during concreting works as lorries filled up fresh concrete into the planking. Together with 500 tons of concrete and steel, 22 construction workers were pulled down. Nine of them suffocated in the concrete pulp and thirteen, most of them seriously injured, could be saved. Photo shows Lasting for twelve hours almost a thousand helpers were alarmed for the rescue of the 22 injured construction workers
