Dec. 12, 1953 - Voice of Britain comes of age; December 19, 1953, marks the 21st birthday of the British broadcasting Corporation's overseas broadcasts from Britain. The first broadcast was the Australian service. Today there are 40 different overseas services covering the world in a babel of languages.
