Demonstration of British military vehicles, Surrey

Sep. 09, 1954 - Demonstration of British military vehicles. First gas turbine powered track vehicle on show. A special and unique demonstration of British military vehicle was held at the Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (FVRDE), at Chertsey, Surrey today. Staged primarily to promote sales in this special channel of export trade, the display included almost 100 different vehicles giving an immense range of usage, load and personnel carrying motor workshop lorries, mobile cranes, tankers, carriers up to 60 tons for tank transportation, and even armoured cars were among the exhibits to be seen either at the display center or taking part in spectacular demonstrations of their qualities on test circuits. The event has been orgainsed jointly by the Ministry of Supply, to whose specifications the vehicles are built and by the society of motor manufacturers and traders, some of whose members are responsible for carrying out the production programme. An armoured carrier 6x6 personal sealed for eading, demonstrating in 6ft. of water, the driver cannot see and is guided by companion in turret. This vehicles is a carrier for personnel in armoured and armoured car regiments and in Divisional engineer units. The vehicle is capable of rapid conversion to a land carrier and a Navigational vehicle. As an APC it carries a total of twelve men including driver and commander. Hull and turret welded Armour plate, sealed for wading to 5'6 (unprepared) in the turret. A minting ring is also provided for Bren 303 a customs grid for use against aircraft
