Demonstration of British military vehicles, Surrey
Sep. 09, 1954 - Demonstrating world's first jet propelled tank: The world's first jet propelled tank was demonstrated today (Thursday) in a display of new British military vehicles at the Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment at Chertsey, Surrey. The tank, developed at the establishment, is powered by a gas turbine engine produced by C A Parsons and Co, the Newcastle engineers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Supply. The tank will be a mobile testbed, providing information for the future application of gas turbine technique to wheeled and tracked military vehicles. It crosses a bridge during the demonstration today
