Demonstration of British military vehicles, Surrey

Sep. 30, 1954 - Demonstration Of British Military Vehicles. First Gas Turbine Powered Track Vehicle On Show: A special and unique demonstration of British military vehicles was held at the Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (FVRDE), at Chertsey, Surrey today. The display included almost 100 different vehicles giving an inmense range of usage. Load and personnel carrying motor vehicles from 5 cwt to 30 tons carrying capacity, workshop lorries, mobile cranes, tankers, trailers and cars were among the exhibits to be seen either at the centre or on test circuits. The event has been organised jointly by the Ministry of Supply, to whose specifications the vehicles are built, and by the society of motor manufacturers and Traders, some of whose members are responsible for carrying out the production programme. Photo Shows: A special feature of the demonstration was the first appearance of the first heavy tracked vehicle to be powered by a gas turbine, which was developed and made in this country.
