Demonstration of British military vehicles, Surrey
Oct. 10, 1956 - Land Warfare takes to water: Representatives of many foreign armies, including those from Russia and Germany, saw a recent demonstration at the British Ministry of Supply's Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment in Surrey, England. Photo shows left: 50-ton Centurion tank plunges into a wading pit and begins to float. It has a collapsible waterproof screen around the top surfaces so that turret lids can be left open. Sides and bottom are sealed and two propellers mounted in rear drive a truck with helmeted driver is driven through the wading pit at the demonstration
