Demonstration of Dahl safety kerb, near Bletchley, UK

Jun. 06, 1953 - Demonstrating The Dahl Safety Kerb New Road Device For Saving Life. A demonstration was held this afternoon along a stretch of road two miles south of Bletchley, beside the Grand Union Canal - of the Dahl Safety Kerb - which consists of a white reinforced concrete section that on impact by a nearside front tyre the course of the vehicle is deflected along the direction of the Kerb producing a braking effect which enables the driver to regain control. The device has for a long time been in use in Denmark, where it was invented - and has proved successful in Canada; France; Germany, Sweden, Switzerland USA etc. Photo Shows: During the demonstration a car hits the Kerb at 35 mph - and the driver immediately regains control by the braking action of the device
