Demonstration of Dracone bending barge, off Southampton
Dec. 12, 1960 - Bending barges grown bigger. Full of air for demonstration purposes, the 100 ton capacity, latest version of Britain's bending barges, named Dracones, makes a wake in the sea off Southampton, England. When loaded with any of a variety of liquids they can carry, the flexible Dracones are claimed to be cheaper to buy, rent or operate than steel barges, and travel almost submerged. Their capacities range from 15 to 320 long tons and orders for them have already been received from Australia, Germany and Japan
