Jul. 07, 1957 - The English Electric P1 beats wold speed record. Flies at nearly 1, 200 mph. The English electric P1 travelled at a new unofficial world record speed of nearly 1, 200 mp h. The actual speed is still secret but it was stated that the machine was still accelerating when the pilot chief test pilot Roland Bebe Beamont throttled her back. A demonstration of the plane in flight was given for the press at Warton Aerodrome, Lancashire.
