Feb. 07, 1972 - February 7th, 1972 - Newry march passes off peacefully. The anxiously awaited civil rights demonstration in Newry passed off peacefully yesterday when the organisers dropped their plans to march into the town centre. They thus avoided contact with more than 2, 000 troops and police who waited behind barricades without seeing the marchers. Instead of marching 1 miles as announced, the 12, 000 strong procession moved only a short distance and kept in the Derrybeg Estate on the town's outskirts. Photo Shows: Lt. Gen.
