Feb. 02, 1955 - Demonstration of New British Sub Machine gun. Cadet fires from shoulder: A demonstration was held for the Press this afternoon of the new Stirling sub machine gun at the Sterling Engineering Company, Dagenham. The weapon, which replaces the Sten has recently been adopted by the British Army as a supplementary weapon to the Belgian FN Rifle. It weighs only 6 lbs, fires up to 575 rounds per minute and is accurate and will kill up to 200 yards. It can be fired from the hip, shoulder or even with one hand in pistol fashion. Photo shows Boy Cadet Barry Spraggon of Hornchurch and the Dagenham Sea Cadet Unit tries out the new Stirling machine gun and fires it from the shoulder during the demonstration today
