Demonstration of new style lifesaving jackets, London
Jul. 07, 1959 - Demonstration of New Style Lifesaving Jackets in London: A demonstration was held at the Royal Festival Hall this afternoon of new Marksway Lifesaving Jackets'. They are foolproof, for no action is needed by the users from babies to old folk. Buoyancy comes from air trapped inside the lining. Panels of Long staples fiber cotton are let into otherwise airtight compartments that form part of the lining. When dry, air circulates freely - when wet the cloth seals up promptly to become both air and water tight - and they are so designed that there can be no leakage of air. Photo Shows Mr. Arthur Ayeyard dressed as a deep sea fisherman with thigh boots and heavy oilskin clothing; his daughter, fifteen year old Susan, and nine year old Leslie Greenbank are wearing the new life jackets - seen before the demonstration at South Bank this afternoon. The jackets are suitable for all types of clothing and conditions and are foolproof
