1978 - Joe Campos Torres Demonstration: Mexican-Americans, black and white, have gathered in front of Houston City Hall to mourn the death of Joe Campos Torres and protest at the one-year Federal sentences handed down to 3 Houston Police officers involved in the death of Campos Torres. Together with minor and local state politicians, they were members of the activist organisations such as Lulac who spoke to the issue. As a reminder of the turbulent 1960s there were some Brown Berets attending
