Demonstration in response to Joe Campos Torres death, USA

Apr. 14, 1978 - Demonstration over the death of Joe Campos Torres at Houston, Texas, USA. Gathering sympathisers as they marched, hundreds of singing and chanting demonstrators converged on a shuttered Houston City Hall recently to mourn the death of Joe Campos Torres. Mexicans, Americans, blacks and whites joined in the protest against the one year Federal sentences handed down to three Houston Police Officers involved in what some of the demonstrators termed the murder drowning of Joe Campos Torres. Fear was expressed that the slap-on-the-hand sentences might be viewed by some police as a licence to commit violence against other members of the Mexican-American community.
